Day 359-360, War 120
Fisherman's Row
Two frigates and two submarines, with the assistance of a few Warden gunboats, cross into Westgate. The objective was to lure out Colonial QRF and make a kill. Luckily enough someone took the bait, and as a Warden light frigate started to shell Handsome Hideaway, a Colonial Trident submarine crossed into the southern end of Westgate. The sub waited for intel while a scout attempted to locate the Warden frigate, however a Warden scout detected the Colonial submarine, causing a retreat. The frigate, seeing an opportunity, moved to attack the enemy sub only to find nothing. That's when they traversed into The Satyr Stone. Unbeknownst to the crew of the Colonial submarine, they had been tapped and the Warden task force already had their eyes on its prey. After half a day of movement, the task force began shelling The Satyr Stone. The Colonial submarine, thinking they have a target, move north to engage. Immediately upon crossing into the region, two torpedoes smash into the side of the Colonial sub. A textbook ambush and a sure victory. For the Warden sub it was a routine sub hunt, but for the Colonial sub it spelled absolute disaster. Their first taste of sub combat and they were blown to shreds immediately.
Soon after the rest of the Warden task force moves south to engage the sinking sub. Through skilled damage control work the Colonial sub had managed to repair itself and surface, and was barrelling west towards the Fingers in hopes of avoiding the Warden sub. Through skilled manoeuvring, luck and “Bufoonery” the Colonial sub had managed to outmanoeuvre the Warden Sub and escape the region. Diving underneath the Warden sub to escape. Meanwhile, a Colonial submarine in Eidolo seaport had quickly mobilised and moved into the waves. The Warden frigate moving to block off the Colonial escape had not anticipated a second sub and had split off from its gunboat escort; its demise was the first kill of the day, taken by a Colonial Submarine.
Meanwhile in Captain's Dread off the coast of The Fingers, the Colonial sub takes another two hits. The Colonial sub dives to crush depth and the Warden sub, thinking it has secured a kill, doesn't fire a second round of torpedoes. Another miracle. The Colonial sub dolphin dives out of the water and moves around an oil rig and, for the first time, actually dodges a hit. The chase continued into the Cavitatis river, but by then Colonial coastal QRF was in the water. With one last shot, they hit the Colonial sub again, point-blank. To the astonishment of all parties the Warden sub ended that day without a kill, beaten and bruised after avoiding QRF gunboats and without any ammo. Meanwhile a frightened part of the task force that had been hiding in Oarbreaker Isles had moved south into the region. While celebrating their kill the Colonial sub, now returned in Eidolo, was ambushed by an enemy vessel and unfortunately sank. A testament to the ferocity of the Warden Navy: it doesn’t go down without a fight. Proper coordination between several large regiments could have killed two subs that day, but kings often fall when they seem the strongest.
During War 120 the Colonial Navy showed a newfound tenacity, a new kind of attitude:
A will to fight the Paper Tiger.
